French Essentials for Dummies

This is a useful reference book for someone who studied French at school and wants to pick up the language again in later life. It is giving me a short cut into the language and by using it I find I can remember more than I thought I would. It does not have the annoying bells and whistles that try to be amusing which is affected by some other modern textbooks, just good, solid information.

My goal is aquiring some ability to read French for a hobby interest, and this book, together with French For Dummies, with CD (For Dummies (Language & Literature)) and Intermediate French For Dummies have been very useful in my efforts. I really like Laura's French website, and her books are simply excellent.
