Lynne Farrow is a whistle blower. She is also a journalist, researcher, former college professor and speaker. If you are a woman diagnosed fibrocystic breast disease or with breast cancer, you need to read this book. If you are a woman who undergoes repeated breast procedures such as breast cyst aspirations or repeated biopsies of breast nodules, then you need to read this book. If you are a breast cancer survivor, then you need to read this book.

As an interventional radiologist for 30 years, my job was to read the mammograms and perform the procedures, the breast biopsies and needle aspirations. Some women had multiple cysts and nodules and returned to the department every year for repeat aspirations and biopsy procedures. After their procedure, these women would ask me, "Doctor, what can I do to make these cysts and nodules in my breast go away"? And for 30 years I would throw up my hands and say "We just don't know".

After I retired from radiology and returned to clinical medicine in 2004, I attended medical meetings and there was David Brownstein MD and George Flechas MD addressing the doctor audience about the Iodine project and the health benefits of Iodine supplementation. Iodine is the answer to fibrocystic breast disease. Iodine is the answer for breast cancer prevention. Iodine is the answer I should have been giving to all the women over the years I worked in the hospital X-ray department, but didn't. So I am making up for it now. We routinely test for Iodine level, and give Iodine supplements to every woman in my clinic.

Iodine Crisis

This book gives really good information, albeit INCOMPLETE info. Lynne Farrow does an excellent job of presenting the material in an accessible way.
Iodine supplementation is nothing to play with and its use requires serious research.
Other supplements are mandatory in combination with iodine and without those supplements, one may not get optimal results.
There is also a detox (Herxheimer reaction) that occurs as the bromides and other toxins are displaced by Iodine.
This detoxification can make one feel worse than one did in the first place.
The Iodine Crisis does not give enough information on detoxing, what it looks/feels like, and how to cope with it. This information is crucial since without it, people may give up the treatment in the mistaken belief that their health is getting worse.
Readers should do their due diligence and study many sources before deciding to supplement with Iodine.
This book is a good but incomplete addition to my own research regarding Iodine supplementation.

About the Author
Dr. Vladislav Klein is Professor Emeritus of Engineering at the George Washington University, in Washington, DC. He received his Ph.D. from Cranfield University, Cranfield, UK, in 1974. He worked at the Aeronautical Research and Test Institute in Prague, The Czech Republic, from 1954 to 1970, then as a Senior Research Officer at Cranfield University in Cranfield, UK, from 1970 to 1975. He joined The George Washington University in 1975 as a faculty member at the Joint Institute for the Advancement of Flight Sciences (JIAFS) at NASA Langley Research Center. In addition to his teaching activities, he has been the principal investigator on research programs which included the improvement of existing methods and development of new methods for flight test data analysis. Some of these techniques are being used by various research establishments and aerospace companies in the United States and abroad. For his contributions to aircraft system identification research, he was awarded the NASA Medal for Exceptional Engineering Achievement in 1992.
Dr. Eugene A. Morelli has been a research engineer at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, since 1990. His research interests include flight dynamics, aircraft accident investigation, and all aspects of aircraft system identification. Dr. Morelli has written more than 50 technical papers and reports on these topics, and is the author of SIDPAC (System IDentification Programs for AirCraft). He has designed experiments and developed models for many different aircraft, including the X-29, X-31, F-18 High Alpha Research Vehicle (HARV), DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, F-15 ACTIVE, Tu 144LL supersonic transport, North American Navion, and the X-43A (Hyper X), as well as many subscale models. Dr. Morelli is an associate fellow of the AIAA, and has given lectures, graduate courses, and short courses on flight dynamics and aircraft system identification.

Based off the synopsis, I expected there to be more romance during her recovery. Maybe that will come in the next book. Katy's diagnosis was repeated too many times and the book included other medical details that I didn't think were needed to support the story. It also might've been better without so many perspectives. For example, a secondary character could've summarized to Katy what happened during her coma, instead of including her parents' perspectives. In all honesty, I'm not sure I would've finished the book had I not received the e-book in exchange for an honest review. However, I did like the characters and have few laugh out loud moments.

A storyline with potential

After reading the synopsis I was looking forward to reading the book… Unfortunately I ended up being disappointed and struggling to even finish it '

Medically speaking it felt that a lot of the content are just being repeated throughout the book and I honestly felt that Katie’s whole hospital stay, even her diagnosis as well as her magnificent improvement were unrealistic. I kept on feeling that there is something missing!! I am a final year occupational therapy student and we work with spinal injuries. The book kept on disappointing me because the medical and rehabilitative descriptions were superficial and lacking depth. I hope that it is just due to my knowledge of the injury, hospital treatment & care of spinal injuries and that other readers don’t experience it the same.
There was also an opinion given during a conversation about Hillary Clinton. I don’t live in America but it felt disrespectful to me since I know that America is going into an election year. It was wrong to include a political view that reads like a cheap shot at a presidential candidate in a book that could influence others.
Lastly during the final scene at the restaurant I was utterly disappointed that the book ended (maybe even abruptly so), I expected a confrontation between Darren and Katie and yet nothing happened.
I don’t know whether I would read the rest of the series. I want to in the hopes of giving it a second chance, but for now I think I am going to wait before giving it another go.

I should have read this book before going in to college!

I must say this is exactly the kind of book i've been looking for, since I entered architecture school I have been trying to find literature for a good design process applied to architecture. The book covers the architectural design process from start to finish with many helpfull insights into the various stages of the complex design process involved in building. In my opinion, it is a vaery complete book, not just talking about building aspects, but client relationships, cost concerns, while at the same time realizing the diference of the academic and work reality. A must buy in my opinion.

I loved this book!

Who would have thought one could write such a funny, and charming, and informative book on sentence diagramming? Kitty Florey weaves her own 6th grade experiences diagramming sentences under the watchful eye of Sister Bernadette, and then reflects on other writers, notably Gertrude Stein, who was passionate about grammar, and even loved diagramming, (who knew?) but then wrote sentences that obeyed her OWN rules and defied grammatical conventions. Florey's tone, throughout this delightful book, is one of spontaneous humor and warmth. She is passionate about language herself, and seeing how language has evolved, with or without the help of diagramming, is a fascinating look at ourselves, our culture, and gives us a clue about what the future may hold for the written and spoken word.

Barking for Bernadette

This book is a fabulous read: it is brilliant, erudite, easy-to-read, and laugh-out-loud funny. It will teach you all you never even thought to ask about diagramming sentences, but it is about far more than that. Really, it's an exploration of the evolution of the English language, the gap between those of us who MUST speak and write properly and those who say--whatever. Mostly, it'll make you laugh out loud and how many authors can do that? Move over, Lynn Truss and David Sedaris.

ok, needs some basics of diagramming

This short book is a pleasant memoir of a time when many people learned sentence diagramming and, to be honest, more of the rigors of grammar. In the author's case, she clearly recalls teacher Sister Bernadette and the pleasure diagramming brought both of them. I put this on my list after an interview with Ms. Florey refreshed my own fond memories of something logical and detailed that appealed to me as a future engineer who likes to write.

We learn some about the history of diagramming and its predecessors, with a mix of specific examples largely taken from literature. The literary references (Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jack Kerouac, etc.) allow her to tell various stories about the famous authors and shift into various riffs on English in general, such as "ain't". Those musings are interesting enough and move right along, but the net result is that I learned very little from the book.

I really wanted a modest refresher of diagramming basics in this book. Maybe 5-10 pages would have done the trick. There certainly was room. I studied the examples, thinking about how I would have done them myself or why they were done this way or that (e.g., oh, yes, that's a participle, isn't it, so it's written in that arc). For that reason, I will disagree slightly with Ms. Florey's statement that you don't learn grammar from diagramming. Perhaps diagramming forces you to think about what parts of speech those funky phrases are. The author credits Gene Moutoux for the complex diagrams, and his web site indeed has a nice introductory tutorial.

She gets full credit for pointing out weaknesses in diagramming, most notably that bad English and bad grammar often diagram just as well as the good stuff.

Even as someone who is no fan of George W. Bush, I can do without cracks about him in this type of book. The little dig against "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" fits better.
