No Christmas magic.

I usually like Mitchell well enough, but this one just didn't do it for me. It felt like the author was setting up a full-length romance, with depth and color, and then sort of ran out of steam. Diverting, but not one that will stay with you.

A sexy Christmastime romance

Mel Halner doesn't HATE Christmas, but after six years of running the family's Christmas tree farm, he doesn't exactly love the holiday either. Mel works constantly, just to keep his finances afloat and sometimes, he has to wonder what life would be like if he'd run off with Bryce Campion when the man had asked. When Bryce returns to town for business and a wedding, the holiday season heats up. The pair can't keep their hands off of one another, but Mel knows their reunion won't last long. Strange things start to happen, though, and it almost seems like Bryce is trying to win Mel over. Is Bryce looking for more than a simple holiday fling? What will Mel do if he is?

Author K.A. Mitchell steams up the pages in THE CHRISTMAS PROPOSITION. Misunderstandings and perhaps even a lack of maturity kept Mel and Bryce apart in the past. The question is, have they grown up enough to stay together now? I enjoyed watching Mel and Bryce stumble as they learned to be a couple outside of the bedroom. Their flaws made them more real to me than their virtues. Though THE CHRISTMAS PROPOSITION isn't my all time favorite book of Ms. Mitchell's, it's a sexy, enjoyable tale and is the most Christmassy of all the stories in the MEN UNDER THE MISTELTOE anthology.

Sexy and funny

This was very sexy and funny.

I will say at once what didn't convince me and I think wasn't really explained until the end: Bryce, the owner of Campion Gas company, probably had a personality transplant between his first separation from Mel and their reunion. I get that he didn't want to pressure Mel and he was waiting for him to decide, but it was still a long time.

Anyway, I adored Mel, because I felt for him: stuck in his parents' farm, while his siblings are chasing their lives, he finally has the chance to spend some time in an exotic place for his best friend's wedding. The dream bubble is suddenly burst, leaving him stranded with a last-minute wedding on his farm, together with the man of his dreams, Bryce, who he hasn't seen for two and a half years.

This story was funny and entertaining because it merges a cinderfella with a holiday theme. The chemistry between Mel and Bryce is scorching hot. Mel is trying to live their encounters to the fullest, knowing that the man will go as soon as the wedding is over. While the sex is amazing, as Mel was expecting, there is also an unsettling tenderness in Bryce, coupled with the myriads of attention he bestows on Mel. Mel confusion is endearing. It really seems he is afraid of grabbing the chance of happiness in front of him, as if it's too good to be true.

The steam factor and the romantic plot were well balanced. My favorite parts of the story were probably those where sex let transpire the deep connection between the main characters. The story is in Mel's first-person point of view, but I felt there was a whole world behind Bryce worth knowing. There are unfortunately a few editing problems, the story was overall very enjoyable.

His knowledgeable and very readable tour d'horizon of recent research on economic growth culminates in the presentation of his own model - a mix of the best from all economic worlds. The whole book undoubtedly benefits from Bergheim's experience as both an analyst and researcher. Children will struggle with terms such as "Ballet Folkl�rico," "Netzahualc�yotl," and "Usumacinta River." No pronunciation help is given. Chunks of information in very small type, written for adults to share with children, appear with each letter. Parra's vividly colored illustrations reflect Mexico's traditions and cultures. Written by Tony Johnston, who lived for many years in Mexico, this book introduces aspects of the land, culture, and history of that country suggested by letters of the alphabet: “A is for Adobe. . . .�B is for Ballet Folkl�rico. . . .� Cis for Cacao. . . .�D is for Diego Rivera,” and so on. Each single-page or double-page entry is accompanied by a two- or four-line rhyme for younger children and, in a vertical border, paragraphs of information for older readers. The alphabetical device inevitably makes for a rather haphazard arrangement of topics, and the rhymed couplets vary in quality. Still, the paragraphs of information are clearly written, often lively, and well worth reading; Parra’s paintings illustrate them with flair and distinction. The influence of Mexican paintings and murals is apparent in their fresh combination of folk-art elements, sound composition, and imaginative touches. A colorful introduction to Mexico. A most interesting perspective!

It's lots of fun to see a very well written story from the perspective of a dragon civilization rather than the usual human side of things. There are so many small details to that and the book handles them all really well, while at the same time matching an interesting, unpredictable plot with it. Very much worth the read!
