Nobody blows smoke like Nick Naylor. He’s a spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies–in other words, a flack for cigarette companies, paid to promote their product on talk and news shows. The problem? He’s so good at his job, so effortlessly unethical, that he’s become a target for both anti-tobacco terrorists and for the FBI. In a country where half the people want to outlaw pleasure and the other want to sell you a disease, what will become of the original Puff Daddy?

Amazon.com Review
"Nick Naylor had been called many things since becoming chief spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies. But until now no one had actually compared him to Satan." They might as well have, though. "Gucci Goebbels," "yuppie Mephistopheles," and "death merchant" are just a few endearments Naylor has earned himself as the tobacco lobby's premier spin doctor. The hero of Thank You for Smoking does of course have his fans. His arguments against the neo-puritanical antismoking trends of the '90s have made him a repeat guest on Larry King, and the granddaddy of Winston-Salem wants him to be the anointed heir. Still, his newfound notoriety has unleashed a deluge of death threats.

Christopher Buckley's satirical gift shines in this hilarious look at the ironies of "personal freedom" and the unbearable smugness of political correctness. Bracing in its cynicism, Thank You for Smoking is a delightful meander off the beaten path of mainstream American ethics. And despite his hypertension-inducing, slander-splattered, morally bankrupt behavior--which leads one Larry King listener to describe him as "lower than whale crap"--you'll find yourself rooting for smoking's mass enabler. --Rebekah Warren

From Publishers Weekly
"Nick Naylor had been called most things since becoming chief spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies, but until now no one had actually compared him to Satan." So begins the adventures of this protagonist, a shamelessly slimy yuppie and PR flack par excellence for the tobacco industry. The story, such as it is, consists of Naylor's attempts to prop up his failing corporate star by expanding his defense of the evil weed. Working the airwaves, he engineers successful, hysterical appearances on Oprah and Larry King , after which he's kidnapped by anti-tobacco terrorists who attempt to murder him by plastering his body with nicotine patches. As usual, Buckley's humor is over the top, although he doesn't exactly choose tough targets (his previous novel, The White House Mess , tackled the decline and fall of the Reagan/Bush dynasty). But the blatant immorality of Big Tobacco inspires some wonderfully comic vehicles, such as the delightfully morbid M.O.D. (Merchants of Death) squad, a semi-secret weekly lunch club that consists of Naylor and fellow flacks for the NRA and the alcohol industry. The silly plot sometimes gets in the way of the funny stuff, and it's far more entertaining to watch Naylor try to maintain his fiefdom and satisfy his libido amid the madcap spin control. Buckley is a smoother, funnier and more refined heir apparent to Art Buchwald's throne, and this book cements his position as the best up-and-coming political satirist on the literary map. Author tour.

From Library Journal
Since the titles of so many books are mysterious or ironic, it is pleasant to come upon one that says exactly what it means. Nick Naylor is chief spokesperson for the Academy of Tobacco Studies and as such has the dubious honor of defending and promoting the rights of smokers at a time when they are accorded the same treatment lepers once were. Like most good romps, this one is sportive and whimsical on the surface, but it manages to let loose a roundhouse punch at the advertising industry and the vacuum at the heart of power. At one point, the joke wears a little thin and imminent tedium threatens, but thanks to the author's inventiveness, the novel's earlier zest is soon recovered, and the plot starts spinning merrily along once again. Buckley's prose is well behaved and his dialog brisk and lifelike. All in all, an amiable and worthwhile work from the author of the best-selling The Whitehouse Mess (Random, 1986) who is now an editor at Forbes FYI magazine.

Great satire, so-so thriller
By Wheelchair Assassin
Nick Naylor, the protagonist of Christopher Buckley's "Thank You for Smoking," gives new definition to the term "antihero." Despite his position, he's not really a bad guy. Sure, he makes six figures a year lying through his teeth as the chief lobbyist at the Academy of Tobacco Studies in Washington, but he's not really making anybody smoke cigarettes. As he explains it, he's just moderating between two competing groups, namely the cigarette companies and the anti-smoking zealots. Besides, someone's got to pay the mortgage and his son's prep-school tuition. Even he realizes that his rationalization sounds like something a Nuremberg defendant might say ("I vas only paying ze mortgage"), but it takes a certain courage to go on TV and say there's no demonstrable link between smoking and disease. Perhaps Buckley's greatest achievement here is that he can take a guy who lies to sell cigarettes and make him into a sympathetic figure.
Nick Naylor's life provides the basis for Buckley's often hilarious look at the "neo-puritanism" of mid-nineties America and the attempts of tobacco companies to fight it. And although I hate cigarettes, I think a book like this needed to be written. Anybody who's ever been repulsed by those ridiculous "Truth" ads where a bunch of obnoxious young people harass those who make and sell cigarettes should get a good laugh at Buckley's portrayal of the sanctimonious forces of political correctness. As Nick tells Oprah Winfrey in one uproarious scene, cigarette opponents aren't above manipulating children and trying to tell everyone else how to think. And anything that takes the wind out of the sails of political correctness is fine by me.
Much of the book's humor comes from Nick's lunch meetings with his friends in the Mod (an acronym for "Merchants of Death") Squad. Composed of Nick, alcohol lobbyist Polly Bailey, and one-armed gun advocate Bobby Jay Bliss, the Mod Squad is sort of a combination support group and mutual admiration society. In the presence of their own, the three death merchants can work on their PR strategies, discuss their latest misfortunes at the hands of the neo-puritans, and compare just how much death they've caused and how hated they are. In one particularly humorous scene, Polly and Bobby Jay are saying how much hate mail they get, and Nick just scoffs and says, "HATE mail? ALL of my mail is hate mail."
Of course, even satires need plots, so Buckley throws in some intrigue regarding a plot to have Nick killed. When a team of killers kidnaps Nick and covers him in nicotine patches, Nick finds himself suspected by the FBI of having done the deed himself as a PR stunt. In an effort to clear his name, Nick eventually traces the attempt on his life to a conspiracy in the upper levels of the tobacco lobby. Although this plot had possibilities, it felt somewhat underdeveloped to me. At a mere 272 pages, "Thank You for Smoking" isn't quite long enough to function effectively as both a satire and a thriller. The plot's pretty interesting, I just would've like to see a little more space devoted to it.
Still, this book is worth a read. It's fast-paced, well written, and remarkably perceptive. More than once I found myself laughing out loud at the absurdity of it all. If an avid non-smoker like myself can find himself rooting for a tobacco lobbyist, than anyone can.

Worth inhaling
By Eric J. Lyman
I would have never guessed that I would even consider reading a book about a PR man for the tobacco industry ... and I certainly could have never imagined that if I did, I'd enjoy it so much!
I picked up Thank You For Smoking at the suggestion of a friend, and was pulled into the narrative immediately. The story is so tightly and entertainingly written that I practically inhaled it (pun intended), taking less than a day to finish the book's nearly 300 pages even though for the most part I had to read it a few pages at a time while working at a conference.
Author Christopher Buckley pulled off the seemingly impossible here: making a despicable protagonist like Nick Naylor seem sympathetic. I won't go into the way Mr. Buckley does it, but it is definitely worth finding out for yourself.
My only complaint is that the ending to the story wraps up a little too neatly, a little too much like Hollywood. It's a weakness, but not a serious enough of a weakness to cloud the value of this original and clever book.

Funny satire with a real bite on just about everyone
By Craig Matteson
Christopher Buckley knows how to write satire that has a delicious bite along with the laughs. Nick Naylor, our protagonist, is a highly paid consultant for the tobacco lobby that is thinking about cutting back expenses because of their shrinking market and lack of success on the Hill. So, Nick decides on a plan to go on the offensive for the public mind and breath. Unfortunately for Nick, his new public notoriety brings attention from some folks who have a rather aggressive passion against smoking.

This book takes on everyone. Lawmakers, lawyers, lobbyists, amoral businessmen who don't care what they sell as long as they get rich, activists who are motivated by a lot other than their stated cause, media types, and the public. We all get it in ways that will make you say ouch and still find a laugh.

Good novel that has held up well.

An excellent book for beginners and experts - LOVE the illustrations
By Gisela Hausmann
Considering that I am an expert in crocheting, who has crochet hundreds of projects I was surprised about two things:

a) I learned new stuff, and
b) how "complete" this book is.

Born in Austria, I learned to crochet in Austria (reading German instructions); when I moved to the United States I relearned the US terms to be able to follow instructions how to crochet the one or other piece. However, I was unaware that there are different terms for certain stitches in American and British English.

Considering how many crappy books are published these days, this is a surprisingly solid, excellent book!!

I really picked it up because I wanted to check out "what's new." Though the book contains fewer projects than I thought, I was impressed with the excellent design of the book, the absolutely fabulous pictures, and the excellent bibliographies. As an author myself I really appreciate it when other authors do their homework and name all sources.

The color illustrations showing how the various stitches are done are probably the best I have ever seen, much better than in many well known magazines I have read.

From illustrations how to store the yard, how to read instructions, fillet graphs, to pictures that show the crochet needle running through the work piece and picking up the yard on the other side author Dorothy Wilks does it all.

If you want to know how "complete" and fabulously illustrated this book is, here is proof:

At the end of this book the author explains "blocking," the process of giving a completed piece the desired shape. She uses a shawl as an example and shows picture of the finished piece, explains that it has to be sprayed with water, pulled into the correct shape, then use blocking pins to keep in that shape and weigh it down until it is completely dry. She then shows a picture of the same piece - finished. Even though I have been reading books about knitting and crocheting for more than forty years I have never seen pictures showing both states; "before and after" blocking.

Love this book - highly recommended.

Great section on afghans!
By Michael S.
This book is huge and has all that you need! It is a comprehensive guide to crocheting and makes a great reference tool for any crafter. There are plenty of patterns and projects included. One of the things that I really loved about it was the section on afghans, which my grandmother used to make all the time. The author will show you how to bring stitches together into beautiful patterns. She also teaches in detail about filet stitches and charts. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to crochet.

Drawing upon the latest theories and technology, the new edition of The Big Bang, is a sweeping, lucid account of the event that set the universe in motion. Award-winning astronomer and physicist Joseph Silk begins his story with the first microseconds of the big bang, on through the evolution of stars, galaxies, clusters of galaxies, quasars, and into the distant future of our universe. He also explores the fascinating evidence for the big bang model and recounts the history of cosmological speculation. Revised and updated, the new edition features all the most recent astronomical advances, including:

• Photos and measurements from the Hubble Space Telescope, Cosmic Background Explorer Satellite (COBE), and Infrared Space Observatory
• The latest estimates of the age of the universe
• New ideas in string and superstring theory
• Recent experiments on neutrino detection
• New theories about the presence of dark matter in galaxies
• New developments in the theory of the formation and evolution of galaxies

Great textbook of cosmology.
By A Customer
This may not be one of the easiest books to read, but it is definetely one of the most informative and up-to-date on the subject. The theories of universe creation, galaxy and star formations, etc., as well as the supporting evidence are presented in full. Speculations on the future, as well as alternative theories to the big bang are briefly covered as well.
The book's difficulty and the fact that it resembles a textbook is the only reason why I downgraded my recommendation from 5 stars. Silk wastes no time and space, and pummels you with facts and theories from the onset, with little in between. The textbook feeling is also conveyed through the author's completely objective tone throughout. This may even seem frustrating to some, especially in the early chapters when Silk presents dozens of competing theories and observations, without even a hint as to which is more likely or which he himself supports. Nevertheless, he does proceed to elaborate on all the major theories and specifies which currently carry the most support in the scientific community and why.
Overall, I highly recommend the book, especially to those who are not new to at least the basic ideas of cosmology. Others will need to be a bit patient as the reading is quite dense -- Silk packs about a 1000 pages of info into 400 pages of text; inevitably you may need to re-read certain parts at times in order to follow the logical flow and development of presented theories. I found the observational data to be too technical sometimes as well, and just took the author's word that it supports the theory forementioned.

More opaque than the Big Bang itself
By Michael Selby
I've read quite a few books on astrophysics, cosmology, etc., and this is one of the most poorly written books I've come across. It's too bad, because the writer is trying to be current and thorough. But he doesn't know how to write clearly, his grammar is terrible, he skips steps in his explanations, jumps all over the place, and leaves you wondering "what in the heck is this guy trying to say??". Not recommended.

UNDERSTANDING THE BIG BANG
By Mead C. Whorton Jr.
Joseph's Silk's The Big Bang is one of the finest science books ever written for the educated reader. If you have ever wondered how the universe was born and how it evolved, this book is an invaluable key to understanding these questions. Mr. Silk's prose is very understandable and he clearly explains the myriad topics of modern cosmology. After sketching the origins of modern cosmology; he takes the reader on a dazzling journey which covers evidence for the big bang, the first millisecond of the universe and the primeval fireball, cosmological models, formation of stars, origin and evolution of the galaxies, origin of the heavy elements, the future of the universe, and alternatives to the big bang. The book contains mathematical notes to assist the perplexed/inquiring reader, a detailed glossary, and suggestions for further reading. In addition, the book is richly illustrated with numerous black and white photographs, charts, and diagrams. My favorite diagram is the one on page 98 which depicts alternative big bang models. And on page 96, Mr. Silk clearly lays out the Friedmann equation which is the fundamental equation of big bang cosmology. There is also a center section of beautiful color photographs. And best of all, Amazon offers the book for only $13.95; a bargain at today's prices. I have read several introductory works on cosmology and the big bang but this one stands alone. In summary, this is an excellent expository work on cosmology and the modern big bang theory. If you have any interest in this topic at all, you must have a copy of this book.

Think I'll read it again.
By Raquel A.
A common theme among so many of the reviews is that people didn't like the serial concept. I didn't mind it so much. I pre-purchased the booking knowing that it was a serial and I looked at it like a weekly tv show, where you always had to wait for the next episode. It was an interesting concept. I'm not sure I'd love it for a longer story, but I think it worked just fine for Blank Slate.

As for the story itself, I felt that waiting for each episode was worth it. I loved the cliffhangers with each episode. I loved not knowing where Tiffany was going to take me every two weeks and I liked that I couldn't flip to the end to see what would happen. I loved these characters, not as much as I love the characters in the Kathleen Turner series, but they were still quite enjoyable to spend time with.

And now that I have all the episodes and it's a complete story, I may just have to read it again as on full length book.

Fun on the edge of my seat
By Chelsea Ellenberg
I fell in love with this author with her Kathleen Turner series and was excited to see a new book (serial) release. As expected, I read each new episode as soon as they streamed into my kindle and I didn't want the story to end. I can't say enough about her writing, its so easy to fall into each story and loose track of time.

Loved This One
By Beverly
This book is nonstop action! I never lost interest in the story and I fell in love with Erik and Clarissa immediately. Tiffany Snow has done an excellent job of creating believable characters and a story line that does not disappoint. I loved that Clarissa was such a strong female character who had many things to teach FBI Agent Erik Langston. Blank Slate is an engrossing tale in which you won't mind spending a single minute. Absolutely loved this book!

The New Physics of Consciousness: Reconciling Science and Spirituality, by David Ash

“If modern science were based on ancient Indian philosophy rather than ancient Greek philosophy we would be living in a different world with different values” (Jeans James, 1930).

For centuries Western scientists have been grappling with the many unanswered questions that modern physics pose. These contradictions come about due to the fact that modern physics is based on the ancient Greek concept of Materialism which also argued that religion and spirituality are far removed from science. What David Ash does in this book, is look at Indian spiritual teachings that differ entirely from the concept of Materialism and how this spiritual view of the world helps to answer all the difficult questions that modern science has not been able to answer. In this way, Ash is able to show that spirituality does not only serve a purpose within scientific thinking, but rather that the two are intrinsically linked. This book can be read on its own but reading it along with Ash’s other book The Role of Evil in Human Evolution is highly beneficial.

About the Author
David Ash was born in Kent, England in 1948. His father, Dr Michael Ash, researching the link between cancer and radioactivity, introduced David to atomic physics as a boy. David Ash started the Vortex theory in 1967 at Hastings College of Further Education and continued to develop it at Queens University of Belfast 1968/9 and Queen Elizabeth College, London University 1969 – 1972 and the College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth in 1973/74. On January 15th 1975 David presented his version of the vortex theory from the Faraday Rostrum at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in the auditorium where Lord Kelvin demonstrated his vortex theory for the atom a century before. David then taught physics for a number of years before his vortex theory was published (with Peter Hewitt) as The Vortex: Key to Future Science, by Gateway books in 1990 after which he set out on an international lecture tour, 1991 – 94. In 1995 the College of Psychic Studies published The New Science of the Spirit, which included the prediction of the accelerating expansion of the Universe subsequently confirmed by Saul Perlmutter in 1997. The vortex theory was revised and republished as The New Physics of Consciousness by Kima Global Publishing of Cape Town in 2007. David Ash, now living in Somerset though now single, is father of nine children and the grandfather of eleven.

Wonderful!
By Rs Beck
David Ash's subject matter in this book is, I feel, perfectly contemporary for the time in which we are living, especially as we approach 2012. He writes about the quantum world and how it has revolutionized thought ever since it was discovered. He says modern (Western) society is caught in an illusion of materialism, which has its roots in ancient Rome and Greece. David is heavily influenced by Hinduism and Eastern mysticism in his writing, and bases his argument on the worldview: 'There is motion, but there are ultimately no objects; there is activity, but there are no actors; there are no dancers, there is only the dance.' Fritjof Capra (The Turning Point).

A New Look at Consciousness
By Robert Diehl
A dedicated physicist . . . full of his subject . . . a book deserving to be read two or three times.

Some key sentences of the author follow.

As the VORTEX [think WHIRLPOOL] cosmology is integral to the entire physics, the VORTEX hypothesis as a whole has been proved by the scientific method and stands as a valid theory in science.

Whether you believe the Universe is the mind of God or God is the collective intelligence we call 'Universe,' it is clear that the VORTEX theory, which is understandable by everyone, leads us to know the mind of God.

But what of other theories in physics? Where do they fit into the picture? [The questions are answered in detail.]

David's scholarly work makes a good case for the paranormal -- but it is not an easy read by any stretch of the imagination -- I recommend it only to serious searchers of truth willing to go the extra mile.

In his VORTEX theory, David, the theorist, sees our universe as a subset of other planes. Speed of energy is important. In our world light travels at 186,000 miles per second. David predicts that other planes have speeds faster than the speed of light. He has explained in a YouTube video of five parts, and also on p. 147 of his book, that people have always believed in angels. He postulates the angels come from another plane and are traveling faster than the speed of light: the reason why they are not seen.

It is interesting to note that the poet William Blake -- recognized as a genius by some -- also believed in angels. Quoting from POETRY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE: WILLIAM BLAKE, edited by John Maynard, Sterling Pub. Co., Inc., p. 5: In developing his myths Blake had help that was truly exceptional. All his life he believed he could make direct contact with creatures of another world. This was not science fiction but his special experience of religion. When he was four, he had a vision of God, and later he saw a tree full of angels in a field near London. When his brother, whom he loved, died of illness when Blake was thirty, he saw the spirit of his brother ascending to heaven through the ceiling and clapping its hands for joy. He said he was the companion of angels and sometimes spoke of himself as a writer who merely served as secretary for them, writing down what they dictated. When he himself came to die at age sixty-nine, he happily sang songs about what he saw in heaven. While some people called him the mad Blake, most who knew him found him always sincere and clear, merely that he had visions constantly of what others could not see. He spoke of them in a very matter-of-fact way without any wildness or even wish to persuade others of what he saw.

David explains why our world of matter is an illusion -- his VORTEX theory in a nutshell, p. 38:

The vortex of energy creates the illusion of rest. Movement in a straight line represents maximum velocity. As the line of movement, representing energy, follows a curved path the velocity in the straight line is reduced.

If the line of movement is directed in a spiral [whirlpool], the velocity in the straight line is zero. Thus the vortex is the form in which energy can appear to 'stand still.' It is this movement of energy in three dimensions into or out of a single point in the spherical vortex, which creates the 'stay put' inertia characteristic of matter [our world].

At the bottom of p. 147 and the top of 148, David says: The mythology of angels, fairies and other 'spirits,' that their speed bars them from common perception in physical space and time, found credence in the work of Einstein and Mincowski as they developed the theory of relativity. The Mincowski diagram makes it clear that speeds beyond the speed of light cannot be contained in a space time continuum relative to the speed of light. Any being formed of energy moving faster than the speed of light could not be contained in physical space and time. Common light would pass right through them so they would be invisible. Forces would not interact with them so they would not be bound by gravity nor would they be blocked by matter. They could float, walk through walls and pass right through us as we and the walls are mainly space. The only thing that bars us from passing through walls is the force of repulsion between electrons in the atoms in our bodies and atoms in the wall.

To me, the most intriguing part of David's book is how he relates crop circles (Chapter15) to DNA resonance (Chapter 17), suggesting that: the idea [DNA resonance] is speculative but it points to a new direction of research in biology that could throw considerable light on the process of morphogensis or differentiation of living organisms that could revolutionize medicine; especially the prevention and treatment of cancer.

First, crop circles: David says: You may ask, 'If our world is part of a world of super-energy occupied by intelligent beings that are aware of us, why don't they make themselves known to us?' The answer is they do only we dismiss the evidence they leave for us as hoax. There is solid scientific evidence to refute the hoax hypothesis for crop formations . . . . The JOURNAL OF SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION published a paper by Prof. Levengood in 1995 [See pp. 151-153 for Levengood research and 153-156 for other scientific research and a bibliography as well.].

Crop formations validate the law of simultaneous existence and the law of subsets. They provide circumstantial evidence of the beings with intelligence and a highly advanced technology in a world that permeates our own. We are not aware of the intelligence because we see only the pictograms, not the source. It is obvious that the intelligence is aware of our world as it uses fields of crops as canvasses for executing exquisite art.

The obvious non-human intelligence and advanced unseen technology behind crop formations suggests that mind exists in a greater reality than we perceive. Massive pictograms of incredible complexity, impeccable accuracy, exquisite artistry appearing in crops within minutes in dead of night and terrible weather, not to mention uneven ground and no sign of trespass or hoaxer activity suggest the existence of sophisticated, non-physical beings with a love of art and geometry.

Perhaps patterns appearing in the corn fields have something in common with patterns of thought appearing in our brains. Maybe both are the same phenomenon manifesting at a different level; intelligence operating through super energy to bring about changes in the subset world of energy.

And now DNA resonance [a reinforcement of sound in a vibrating body caused by waves from another body vibrating at nearly the same rate]: It could be that information is passed from a super-energy life-field to the DNA molecule by resonance in much the same way that a program is passed from a broadcast carrier wave to a tuned coil in a radio or television set. In its chemistry the DNA molecule carries the codes for differentiation. In its physical structure it could resonate with fields of super-energy enabling information that influences the activation of these codes. This could direct the operation of DNA causing the cell to differentiate in a certain way. Resonance could also be occurring in other organelles [discrete structures within cells, characterized by having specialized functions] such as the mitochondria [very small, usually rodlike structures found in the cytoplasm . . . which power the cell] where strands of DNA and RNA occur.

Peter Hewitt, co-author of THE VORTEX: KEY TO FUTURE SCIENCE, came up with the idea of a 'life-program.' His concept was that a super-energy field overlaying the cell has a specific program that instructs the cell, via DNA resonance, in its structure and function. The set of frequencies for each cell then set up a field-of-frequencies resonating with the body as a whole. If this idea is correct, the physical body would be a physical manifestation cell-by-cell, of a 'frequency body' in super-energy. Any disruption on the life-program would pre-dispose the body to disease and termination of the program would result in death.

DNA resonance could also be the mediating factor in 'intelligent evolution.' Just as information is projected from the realm of super-energy to cause patterns in corn fields so information could be broadcast to DNA molecules of a particular species causing a new genetic sequence to be added to the DNA, instructing a change in the species. Resonance would explain how such an evolutionary change could occur simultaneously in a large number of individuals of a species. Televisions tuned to the same channel respond to the same change of program on the broadcast signal. So cells tuned to the same species-specific channel of super-energy would respond to any 'design change' in a broadcast program.

The appearance of chance in the process of evolution could be accounted for by DNA resonance. Imagine for a moment that there were intelligent beings in the realms of super-energy making design changes to DNA through DNA resonance. How would these changes appear to us? According to the law of subsets, beings operating through DNA resonance would be able to see us whilst we could not see them therefore their interventions in our world would appear as accidents; pure blind chance.

DNA resonance provides an explanation for the sudden appearance of new species, which cannot be accounted for in Darwin's theory. Peter depicted this allegorically in the mythology of Pan. The pipes of Pan symbolised for him resonance and the tune symbolised the super-energy 'life-program' directing the genetic process. He said, "When Pan plays the same tune, the species remains the same. When Pan plays a different tune a new species emerges."

The model of a super-energy field, animating a body by DNA resonance, fits the image of a soul. In tradition the soul was the person and the primary vehicle of consciousness animating the physical body. The soul was believed to survive death to live in another world and it was the soul that carried the spirit, the spark of divinity. The soul would correspond to a field of super-energy resonating with the body via DNA and the spirit to the animating consciousness.

The law of simultaneous existence accounts for the coincidence of the super-energy 'soul' with the physical-energy 'body' and the law of subsets supports the idea of the physical body being a part of or lower aspect of the super physical soul.

The law of subsets also suggests that we are 'spiritual' beings having a physical experience more than physical beings having a spiritual experience. From that perspective, everything that happens is perfect because intelligence in super-energy benefits from a full spectrum of experiences in physical reality, all of which are relevant.
